DM100i no carrier signal, just for adding postage

One of my client sites ran into a problem with their DM100i postage systems.  It stopped dialing out, with an error message of No Carrier signal detected.  The analog line is a pots line associated on a T-1 and I had no previous problems for over a year.  The system has not changed, there is a prefix set on the PB equipment, and the analog line is found good and tested via my butt set.  If I remove the prefix, it gives a Busy Signal warning (as it should) , but while it has the prefix added it is unable to dial.  The receptionist had already worked with PB support and they replaced the unit, but neither unit is able to add postage.  PB is telling me that they do not support their systems on the class of data lines I use.  I use this configuration accross a three state area, and had yet to run into this problem.   So again, while I can dial the exact number sequence from my set without problem and get a modem on the other end, the PB system claims there is no Carrier signal.  Also, I went into the configuration to do a software update on it, and it was able to dial the same number, and come back that there were no software updates available after connecting.

Thoughts for anything else to troubleshoot, or references to any corrections that would cause this problem?

Re: DM100i no carrier signal, just for adding postage

GUHelpdesk,

Thank you for your detailed post.  I can tell you are definitely knowledgeable on connectivity.  It looks like what this comes to is the T1 line.  I see you were informed by our service phone agent that the cause of this would be related to the T1 line.  I believe this is the case also, because it is very unlikely that 2 meters would have some sort of malfunction that would cause the same exact problem.

We can't guarantee that a T1 line will work with the meter, and we actually usually recommend that a T1 line not be used.  I know this is going to be a hassle, but would it be possible to bring the meter home one evening and try your phone line at home?  Hopefully you don't have VoIP at home.  I would be curious to know if this works with an analog phone line.  If it does indeed work at home, from this we could conclude that it's not a problem with the meter, but instead related to the T1 line.

Thank you,

Jeremy
