Cleaning DM100i

We have a DM100i with what seems to be a leaky cartridge.  There is ink on the inside of the machine that we can't access to clean.  When we run an envelope through, there is a red blotch at the corner and a red stripe running along the top of the envelope.  In addition, we wind up with ink covered hands that's tough to get off.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean the inside?  I'm going to change the cartridge, but don't want to do anything until we can get the inside cleaned up.  Thanks very much for your help!

Re: Cleaning DM100i

knolan01,

Thank you for your post!

The directions I have for cleaning the machine apply more to the external area of the machine instead of inside (see below).  My best suggestion would be to use a swab (or a cue tip, but make sure the cotton doesn't get in the machine) and wipe down any areas you can reach that have an ink build up.

It may also be helpful to purge the ink in the machine:  DM100 Poor Print Quality

Thank you,

Jeremy

Starting at the left side of the machine, where the envelopes feed in, there is a blue lever that removes this part of the machine.  Remove this part, known as the moistener assembly.  On this assembly, there is a brush.  Lift this brush and you will see a metal grate and a felt pad.  Remove the metal grate and felt pad.  Run the felt pad under hot water to remove any build up.  Where this felt pad sits, there may be a build up of slime.  If there is, clean this to the best of your ability.  Replace the felt pad and grate.

Always use nonflammable canned air on your Pitney Bowes products.  Use canned air on this assembly, and place in back on the mail machine.

Moving to the right, there is a lever you can move you the right, or downward.  This releases a set of rollers where the envelopes feed through the machine.  Now, you can move this lever to move these rollers up and down.  What you want to do is clean these rollers to make sure the envelopes are not slipping as they feed through the machine.  I would suggest using an alcohol pad.  Also above these rollers in a belt.  I would suggest using an alcohol pad on this belt also.  Blow this area of the mail machine out with canned air also.  Using the lever, move the rollers back into place.

Moving to the top of the machine is a cover.  Lift this cover and blow this area out with canned air.  Don’t be afraid to use a good amount of air on this part of the machine.  Close the cover.
