rate differences

According to the Postate Price Calculater at USPS website, the rate for registered mail is $11.50.  Yet, Pitney Bowes postage meter give me $10.60.  Why are these amounts different?  I'm trying to set up a preset.

Re: rate differences

Hi world316,

Thank you for your post!  Could you let us know the model number of your machine?  Also, do you know the weight and dimensions (length, width, thickness/height) of the mail piece?

Thank you,

Jeremy

Re: rate differences

Hi PB Jeremy:

Product No. DGU0; Model No. DM500

It's a number 10 envelope (letter size 9.5" x 4"); containing one letter (8.5" x 11"); weighs less than an ounce.

Thank you.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Re: rate differences

Thank you for these details.  Using the Calculate Postage feature on usps.com, I was able to get the rate $10.60 for a 1st Class Letter less than 1 oz including the service Registered Mail.  Here is a link as an example:

http://postcalc.usps.gov/ExtraServices.aspx?M=0&MT=0&P=0&O=0.5&OZ=54915&DZ=54915&RECT=True&H=-1&L=-1...

I'm sorry, I'm not sure why the rate came up different for you on the USPS web site.  At least we know your machine is calculating the postage correctly, which is the most important issue here.

Thank you,

Jeremy

Re: rate differences

Jeremy:

Thank you for the reply.  I just figured out the problem.  $10.60 is the right amount for domestic, however, I'm sending registered mail internationally to Canada, Mexico, etc.  The international rate for registered mail is $11.50.

I can't figure out how to set up a custom preset for international registered mail.  It doesn't give me the option to add services when I choose the first- class international rate.

Re: rate differences

I understand now.  I'm sorry, but the only special service the meter has for international mail is non-machinable.  For this reason, I would recommend a work around.  What you can do is just enter the total postage amount on the meter (just type in 11.50 and press enter) and then print the stamp.  Sorry about having to suggest a work around.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Re: rate differences

Thank you Jeremy

I did the custom preset by entering the entire amount ($11.50 + .75 postage + 2.30 return receipt).  The only problem is that when USPS has another rate change this custom preset won't be updated with the new rates.  I guess it's no big deal I'll just edit the amounts.

Anyway, thanks for your help.  It was fun.
