Move Update

First let me say thank you for this forum.

Our question is how do we make sure our mailing lists confirm to the new USPS(R) Move Update Requirements?

As a government agency, as well as other businesses, we have a budget reduction and would like your feedback.

Thank you.

Re: Move Update

Howdy GalFriday1-

I am glad that you are enjoying the forum (quite honestly, we do too)!

As for your mailings, I probably need to know a little more about them.

If you are not currently presorting your mail (First Class or Standard) and you don't anticipate doing so, then you are fine. (But let's chat more at the bottom of this response about how address hygiene and presorting might help you meet your budgets in spite of rising postage costs...)

If you are currently presorting your mail (First Class or Standard), then there are several ways to meet the requirement. A GREAT document to review is from the USPS. Simply go to: http://www.usps.com/cpim/ftp/pubs/pub363.pdf

Don't forget that you also have a Pitney Bowes Postal Consultant assigned to your account and they are always available to stop by and perform a free postal consultation to assess your current mailing processes and if there are opportunities to assist you in your mail management efforts.

Continuing from the first thought... If you are not currently a participant in presorted discounted mail and you DO have the requisite volumes (500 pieces for First Class or 200 pieces or 50 pounds for Standard Mail), there are many reasons to do so.  Software solutions today (like SmartMailer and AddressRight Pro) can assist you in:

  • Cleansing your addresses and validating that they are truly deliverable
  • Eliminating duplicate mail pieces going to the same address or recipient
  • Meet the Move Update requirement
  • Simplify the process of sorting the mail to meet these requirements
  • and (by the way) qualify you for significant postal incentives/discounts that can assist you in reducing your postal expenditures and keeping within your budget!

Let me know if the document helps.

Re: Move Update

GalFriday1-

Remember as you review Pub363 that the requirement (as of November 23rd) includes Standard Mail and requires compliance with 95 days-

"Here are the changes related to Move Update processing:

  • Increase the minimum frequency of Move Update processing from 185 calendar days to 95 days prior to the date of mailing.
  • Extend the new Move Update standards to include all Standard Mail — letters, flats, parcels and Not Flat-Machinables — as well as automation-rate and presort-rate First-Class Mail."

Re: Move Update

Gal Friday -

Thanks for participating in the forum!

I would be happy to get you connected with your rep. But first, I need to now how to get in touch. Would you please send me your contact info and your Customer Account Number (CAN) by private message? (don't put it in a regular message that will be in public view.)

To send me a private message, just click on my name (PB-Michael) on the left, and on the right side of the page that pops up, click "send this user a private message."

Thanks again,

   Mike
