The IRS requires written substantiation of charitable gifts of $250 or more.
The letter you send out should thank your donor (or member) for their contribution, no matter how large or small the denomination. It should also inform them that their contribution may be tax-deductible. Your letter should also inform the recipient that no goods or services were provided in exchange for their gift.
